Earthquake Hits Chiang Rai, Thailand

May 09, 2014

From the Field

On the evening of May 5th, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Northern Thailand, with the epicenter just outside Chiang Rai, near to where The SOLD Project, our students, staff, and their families reside.

aAftershocks have continued to strike over the several days since.

We are grateful that our kids are all okay, but almost all of their homes have suffered damage from the earthquake.

Our team continues to make home visits to each student to assess the damages. Some homes were affected worse than others; our task now is to see what reparations are necessary to help restore their homes back to safe living conditions.

Our friends at The HUG Project/Thai Connections are helping out by raising funds for 2 WEEKS to help the families of SOLD Project kids make it through this tough season. If you would like to help too, please click on this link!! (Be sure to choose “Thailand Disaster Relief Fund” in the “Purpose” drop down menu!)

Thank you for standing with us in this difficult time.

About The SOLD Project

The SOLD Project prevents child sexual exploitation and trafficking in Thailand, providing vulnerable Thai children and youth with scholarships and resources to help them break the cycle of poverty, avoid the dangers of child trafficking, and lead productive, independent lives.
